Tavener-Timeline-2022

Founded in 1846 as a Builders/Undertakers Business in St John’s Wood, London, C. Tavener & Son Ltd has passed successfully from father to son for six generations. In the late 19th Century, the Firm concentrated its efforts on the domestic residential market. Various small works projects were carried out, mainly in the prime residential areas of Hampstead and the West End of London, as well as larger projects including the rebuilding of part of the Wallace Collection in Manchester Square, London, and the reconstruction of the Adelphi Arches in the Strand.

In the intervening years the business grew and relocated to West Hampstead from where the business continues to operate, along with its sister company CT&S Joinery Ltd.
The ethos and philosophy of Tavener is one of total personal commitment and discretion to its extensive and enviable private and corporate clientele, ranging from Royalty, the English aristocracy and big names in the world’s of theatre, film and  pop music, many stemming from Roger Tavener long and established personal relationship with The Beatles in the 1960s. The family firm continues today to provide and maintain the highest quality and standards of workmanship, no matter how large or small the project.

The Business has expanded steadily over the past 40 years to a current turnover of around £10m. We believe, however, that the quality of our work is more important than excessive growth, as attention to detail cannot be guaranteed if turnover increases  too rapidly.

Meanwhile, CT&S Joinery Ltd, the firm’s joinery division, continues to provide the finest bespoke joinery to many of the Company’s projects, as it has done throughout its history. Well known and frequented venues including The Ritz Hotel in Paris, Annabel’s, Mark’s Club, Harry’s Bar, The Walbrook Club, and Mosimann’s in London, have all benefited from the quality and services of the firm’s joinery production.
The firm celebrates its 170th anniversary this year – something of a rarity when talking of a family owned and run business.
The business continues to evolve with an updated logo, stationery and new website launched this year.
